It was Yellow. And it is FAST!!!!

Hi guys! Already here again. And again talking about this little monster that I saw in the Okashi San’s workshop, the Fisher Fury R1. The first thing to talk about is… well, that it was yellow, as you can see. The beautiful Red Bull livery is Okashi’s own work…. Man of taste, no doubt about it.

Ok, let’s switch back to the serius things. Intrigued by the car, I started to acquire some information about it. And it turned out to be one of the most popular, yet one of the most cost effective kit cars around.

Born from the mind of Jeremy Phillips, one of the most prolific Kit Car designers in UK, it was originally built by Sylva Sport Cars, from 1991, and then by Fisher Sport Cars, from 1994, featuring different options of engines, coming from cars or from motorbikes, from 4 to 8 cylinders, and with 2 types of rear axles, one with live axles, with an old fashioned pahnard rod, in a word, the old Ford Escort rear axle, and a more refined one, with independent rear suspensions, using a Ford Sierra rear hub assembly and purpose built hub carriers, forming the uprights between upper and lower wishbones.

Useless to say that the latter is the most effective for track use, and that the right engine choice is a motorbike one, being lighter, smaller, revving much higher, and having a built-in sequential gear box.

The success of this little beast can be testified by the fact that today, the producer’s name is no more “Fisher”, but “Fury Sport Cars”…

What about our once yellow, now Red Bull coloured Fury? As mentioned in our previous post, it features a carb-fed Yamaha R1 engine, with his 6 speed sequiential gearbox, actuated by a mechanical referral, joined to a pair of paddle shifters behind the steering wheel.

The brakes are Wilwood 4 pot all around, the differential, open, is from a Ford Sierra, and the steering is a Ford Escort’s one, with a direct ratio.

It is how a kit car is made, with components from many different cars (or bikes), of many different makes and eras, with an eye to the wallet and another to the most important thing. The weight.

Do you remember what we said in the other post? 500 kilograms. It is half the weight of a Fiesta. With 150 hp from a Yamaha R1 engine, revving up to 11.000 rpm, with a sequential gearbox that almost nullifies shifting time. Toyo R888 semi slick tires… Do you want a glimpse of how fast this thing can be? Ok, prepare a change of underwear and take a look:

And the craziest thing about the Fisher Fury is that it is completely street legal! You can really use this car in your daily commute! Imagine this thing bombing trough a twisting, country road carrying ths incredible speed…. Just WOW!

Ok, the last thing that I said is not completely… legal. Better shut the fuck up for now. Se you soon!
