Increasing the speed.

Hello guys. Here to talk about the Fisher Fury again.

Ok, in the last entry, we left Okashi San with a puzzled face for the decreased speed of his Fury imposed by the LLCC regulations. First of all, let me tell you that what he decided to do to solve this regrettable problem, is absolutely in the "Do not try this at home" area.

Maybe Carrol Shelby came in his dreams, throwing out Colin Chapman for a moment, and told him something like: "Use the Force...", or maybe something more like: "Put a bigger engine in that thing!". Maybe we'll never know, but that is what happened. Okashi's choice to make the Fury faster has been to take out the Yamaha R1 1000cc, and replace it with a Kawasaki ZX14R 1400cc.

Very simple, no? This means an increase of power in the 50hp area, because the Kawasaki 1400cc bursts more than 200 hp at 11300 rpm, with just 20 kilograms more in terms of weight. It is euphemistic to say that now the Fisher is faster. Much more faster.

It is not so easy to fit a bigger engine in every car, imagine in such a small 2 seater. The Fury required many mods to receive the engine and the gearbox. And many means... a lot. Want a glimpse? Okashi's own words here: "it is a question of weight distribution, ground clearance, correspounding parallelism between oil pan and the road (otherwise, your engine maybe can't suck enough oil... just imagine), drive shaft perpendicularity (you know.. just to avoid teeth braking vibrations and indesirable power dissipations...) and, took the right measurements, you can design some dedicated engine mounts. Then you have to use a sprocket adaptor for the drive shaft, and then you can proceed to build a self made fuel tank to host the stock fuel pump in the correct position and with the correct fluxes. Then there is the little problem of wiring, looms, electronics..."

Nothing that tons of working hours and sleepless nights can't resolve, for sure. And when you finally have the engine in position ad running, you just have to think about the exhaust (custom made 4-2-1by FF By Fresco ), the 4 throttle carbon made air box that protrudes from the bonnet by Reverie Limited, absolutely cool but... does it limit visibility a bit? Maybe it is not a problem to Oakshi San.. he is a sort of The Stig like creature... he doesn't need to see to drive fast.

And it's not over. The kawasaki 1.4 litre engine was made to push a motorbike. Not a car. Ok, this is a very light car but... don't you think that it needs at least a little bit of a ECU tune? The answer is yes, and it has been done by ByTe Therapy Motor Sport. What remains? Well, I think that with all that power to deal with, a proper LSD (no, not the drug...) would be a right choice. And a Titan Motorsport one has been fitted by Castelli Cambi Automatici. Well, easy work, isn't it?

I mean, I am personally very impressed on what this guy can accomplish. This is a personal note, but judging on how much time, efforts, struggles, surrenders, regrets (not to mention financial disaster, but that's another story...) it took to me to accomplish (not at all) my own project of a race car, and considering that mine's a very smaller one, the only thing that I can do is to admire and deeply respect this guy and his car.

Next time is racing time! Stay tuned!
