About the S2000, and the S2000 body

Ok, here we go again. This time to talk about the aerodynamic compartment of the Time Attack S2000, the body, the shell, that will clothe the chassis that we showed in the previus entry.

So, this other car has been destined to work as a mold for the VTR and composites shell. That’s why this thing is made of thick and heavy steel. It will never end up in the finished car. As you can see, it features a Spoon style hard top, that is slowly but inexorably being incorporated in the car’s body. Plaster is being used in large quantities to level out and smooth the surface. And this is maybe the hardest and longest part of the job. Because to obtain a precise, smooth, and clear finished shell, the surface must be treated in the same way as it has to be painted.

Why all this work? Simple. The finished shell will be greatly lighter than the stock body, even if every part of it will be changed with a VTR or carbon fiber part. And will allow to dare much more with the aerodynamics. What you see here is very far to be finished, but is pretty clear that the finished car will be sensibly wider (more than 20cm) and longer (more than a meter!) than a stock S2000.

It will not even have the appearance of a S2000, as the nose of the car has been completely redesigned for aerodinamic efficency. Obviously you can expect to see a flat bottom, or maybe something more than simply “flat”… and a rear diffuser, that will be self designed and self made, as the rest of the car. To bring even more downforce, at the end of that rear protrusion, there will be a huge (self designed and self made) wing, that will complete the work of the newly added fin in the rear.

Expect to see some spoilers even on the front of the car, as well as some air ducts. But wait… the radiator will be behind the cabin, in the rear part. So, there must be another function for those ducts… surely a very juicy function. For the moment you have to use a little bit of immagination to visualize everything, but… take a moment and try to imagine what this thing will be when finished. I really, really want to be there to see it. Keep following Petrolheadsguys, this S2000 will bring some great surprises in the future!
